In Memory of Enric Madriguera MA’84, PhD’93

Enric Madriguera MA’84, PhD’93 was a master instructor and performer of the classical guitar who served UT Dallas for 45 consecutive years from 1979 until his death in 2024. He was director of the guitar studies program at UT Dallas and the first holder of the Russell Cleveland Professor in Guitar Studies. In 2001, Madriguera co-founded the Texas Guitar Competition and Festival, a yearly UT Dallas tradition for which he served as artistic director.

A professional musician, Madriguera’s discography included a debut solo album, “Old World/New World” alongside works with contemporary chamber music ensembles. He notably contributed to the Grammy-nominated album “Voces Americanas” by Voices of Change on the CRI Label.

The Enric F. Madriguera Guitar Fund was established to support the guitar studies program and its students, honoring Madriguera’s lifetime of contributions to the program.
